Each year, The Australian National University (ANU) hosts a ceremony for the ANU Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Education, a decoration given to select academics across the University’s Colleges.

The awards recognise the outstanding contributions academic staff make to the quality of ANU learning, teaching and the overall student experience.

At the recent celebration, Associate Professor Dale Roberts, Dr Xuan Liang, Dr Anna von Reibnitz and Associate Professor Geoff Warren, and Zhi Yang Tho, from the ANU College of Business and Economics’ (CBE) Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics (RSFAS), received awards and citations. Dixin Wu, from CBE’s Research School of Accounting (RSA), received Highly Commended recognition in Excellence in Tutoring or Demonstrating.

Below are the reactions from the honourees.

“With such inspiring colleagues, I didn’t think I would have any chance to win! It was quite a surprise. That said, after years of rethinking about the way I teach, putting all my effort into it, and taking a few risks with new approaches, it feels amazing to be recognised for this award.”

In addition, three CBE academics were named as candidates for the Teaching Excellence Award: Dr Stephen Dann from CBE’s Research School of Management, Dr Eunice Khoo from RSA and Dr Gen Nowak from RSFAS.

Dr Aaron Bruhn and Lucy Yunxi Hu from RSFAS, and Dr Wei Zeng from RSA, were recognised as candidates for the Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.

Dr Dana Hanna, CBE's Associate Dean of Education, commends the hard work of all the academics who were recognised.

“After yet another challenging year in hybrid teaching, it is wonderful to again see CBE academics so strongly represented in the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching,” she says.

“They have dedicated themselves to humanising their fields, and providing opportunities for students to gain knowledge and experience that sets them above the bar in the workforce. I know staff and students alike will join with me in extending congratulations on their hard work, dedication and recognition.”
