RSFAS is very pleased to announce that Allan Sly, former graduate of ANU and Fellow at RSFAS since 2015, has been awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, Class of 2018.

Allan graduated with a BSc (Honours first class) from the ANU in 2004, majoring in Mathematics. He then undertook an MPhil (Master of Philosophy) degree under the supervision of probabilists Daryl Daley and the late Chris Heyde. The MPhil is a single two year research degree offered by the Mathematical Sciences Institute, ANU. Allan's MPhil thesis entitled "Self-Similarity, Multifractionality and Multifractality" was completed in 2006.
Allan moved to the US and completed a Ph.D at the University of California at Berkeley in 2009. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Microsoft Research (2009–2011) and a member of the Department of Statistics at the University of California at Berkeley (2011–2016) before joining the faculty at Princeton University, where he is currently a professor in the Department of Mathematics.
Allan's appointment as a Distinguished Honorary Professor, adjunct to RSFAS, has recently been confirmed.
