Biography

Janice Scealy is a Senior Lecturer of Statistics and a 2018 Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award Fellow. Janice’s research interests include: compositional data analysis; directional statistics, shape analysis and statistics for manifold valued data; robust statistics; model selection in linear mixed models; analysis of sample survey data; geostatistics; and analysis of spatial data.  Her work has been funded by multiple Australian Research Council programs. Janice’s research appears in leading academic journals including Journal of the American Statistical AssociationJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series BAustralian and New Zealand Journal of StatisticsStatistics and Computing, and Statistical Science. Janice is also an active member of the Statistical Society of Australia and the American Statistical Association.

Professional Service

2011- 2013, Council member of the Canberra branch of the Statistical Society of Australia.

Attended Science Meets Parliament in 2008 as one of two representatives from the Statistical Society of Australia. This is an annual 2 day event where scientists meet face-to-face with Ministers, Members and Senators.

 

2005 - 2007, Chair of the young statisticians section of the Statistical Society of Australia and also the young statisticians representative on the Canberra branch of the Statistical Society of Australia. As part of this role she was one of the principal organisers of the 2007 young statisticians conference held in Canberra, 13-14 April, 2007.

 

2005 - 2008, Council member of the Canberra branch of the Statistical Society of Australia.
